Well, to be perfectly honest, I actually don’t think that!

So, stop asking!

There are quite a few ways to generate free traffic on the ‘net,
and I’d hesitate to call any of them the “best,” since they all
have their own pro’s and con’s.

But, I have been caught arguing that ExitExplosion is simply
the best choice in a lot of situations.

See, if you already have a website, and you want to drive *more*
traffic to it, then this just could be the site for you.

They explain it much better on their site than I could here,
but I’ll give you a quick rundown of how it works…

1. First, you install some simple little code on your
website, which detects when people are LEAVING your
site, and shows them an ad for someone else’s site.

It does’t affect your site at all, because it is
only shown to people who are leaving.

2. Then, you earn “credits” when this happens, and your
“credits” are spent showing your ad to other people
who are leaving other people’s websites!

3. They have figured out a way to mathematically multilpy
your credits exponentially. You’re going to have to
read the site for the details on this, since I just
don’t feel like re-iterating it here.

The crazy thing about ExitExplosion is that the more I think
about it, the more I realize that there is no reason NOT to use
it.

All it does is take the traffic that was already leaving your
site, and put it to some good use (namely, getting you MORE

With that said, there are a few tried and true principles that we need to do when optimizing our website. The first of which, and the one that I always tell people to concentrate on is getting quality, 1 way links pointing to your website.

The more quality links you can get pointing to your website, the higher you will rank, period.

While there are many black hat tricks and tactics that you can do for short term gain, I would suggest NOT spending your time on those things. I would focus my entire effort on figuring out how to get other websites to link to yours without you linking back to them. That is the biggest key to ranking well in Google, Yahoo, and MSN.

Doing this is easier said that done. One of the easiest known ways to get quality, one way links is by finding website directories and then submitting your website to them. This can be a very tedious process, but always a very rewarding process at the same time.

You can either submit your website to these directories manually, pay someone to do it for you, OR you can use one of the website directory submission programs out there. Let me explain…

There’s nothing that ticks me off more than “serial refunders”!

You know who I’m talking about. These are people that make it a habit to buy digital products… only to request an immediate refund literally MINUTES later.

Obviously, there is no way they could have gone through the product in the 8 minutes it took for them to request a refund?

What do I mean by that?

Well, when people place orders through your website, it is a good idea to immediately acknowledge the purchase (and I thought I had to do this manually - phew what a lot I’ve learned since then).

One way to automate your business (so to speak) is with the use of autoresponder software. An autoresponder is your computerized pre-inserted auto message system that works when you’re asleep. You don’t have to manually respond to each and every customer that makes a purchase on your site as most shopping carts have this feature included and the ones who don’t, nowadays makes it easy for you to easily integrate your autoresponder into the system.

When you set up your autoresponder to send a message to someone that has placed an order, remember that this is the first communication that your new customer receives from you. This introduction from yourself to your customer is your opportunity to make your first contact with your customer (and in my experience also the first building block to a relationship with your customer).

You should not miss this opportunity!

First impressions are normally lasting ones, so first of all thank your customer for his or her order. Re-inforce how the product will benefit them, and then if you have a product that you feel can add value to the one they’ve just purchased, this could be the perfect opportunity for you to do an upsale . In other words when you mention another available product or products that you know work well with the one that they just purchased, or that are similar to the one that they just purchased in some way. For instance “instant lawn” works with lawn mowers. “Beauty products” work well with natural treatment idea books. Just let them know about the various products that you offer that will compliment their purchase in some way.

The important thing is to not let your customer get away without further contact! Think about being in a brick and mortar store. When you go up to the counter to pay, there are many items there for sale.

These items are meant to be picked up as last minute purchases, or impulsive purchases. Your “thank you” sales letter serves the same purpose.

Don’t make the mistake of bombarding your customer! Let the customer get to know you first, by giving them informative messages in the same topic of the product they purchased. This can be in the form of an interesting article or facts with regards to that specific item etc. By building a relationship with your customer and giving them a chance to get to know you, your customers will be more likely to read what you have to say anyway. As your customers come to trust you and want to read what you have to say, you can then use your autoresponder to let them know about other deals that you have or special items that you have available. Emailing them on a daily basis with your offers is not good business!

Use your autoresponder software responsibly! Make sure that your autoresponder is set up to handle automatic remove requests, and make sure that the information that you are sending your customers is of value to them.
